Taiwan former leader paid respect to Yasukuni war shrine
Lee Teng-hui, Taiwan former leader, paid respect to Yasukuni war shrine on Thursday, despite China’s objections. He proclaimed that his pilgrimage is totally personal since he merely mourned for his elder brother who died in the fight for Japan when Taiwan was the colony of Japan.
Chinese foreign ministry has not comment immediately on the issue but pressured the Japanese government in another channel.
Shinzo Abe, Japan prime minister, emphasized that Japan is a free country and he can not prevent Lee to visit the shrine.
Apparently, the bilateral, both Japan and china, do not want to damage the fragile rapprochement that began after Abe took an ice-breaking trip.
